„For the Flourishing of the City: The Creation of Urban Space in the Shepherd of Hermas and Clement of Alexandria“.

Prof. Maier ist Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Studies an der Vancouver School of Theology und Fellow am Max-Weber-Kolleg für kultur- und sozialwissenschaftliche Studien an der Universität Erfurt (Forschungsprojekt: „Practising the City: Spatial Imagination, Imperial Location, and Reciprocal Processes of Urban Transformation in Second Century Christianity”). Prof. Maier ist einer der bekanntesten Kenner der sog. Apostolischen Väter, des Verhältnisses vom frühen Christentum zum Römischen Reich sowie kaiserzeitlichen Religiosität und Urbanität. Er ist der Verfasser von mehreren Monographien, darunter der preisgekrönten Studien The Social Setting of the Ministry as Reflected in the Writings of Hermas, Clement and Ignatius (1991, 2002 (2. Auflage)) und Apocalypse Recalled: The Book of Revelation after Christendom (2002) und ist u. a. Herausgeber des The Oxford Handbook of New Testament Christianity in the Roman World.
